Everyone loves a good racing movie. The only issue is that they are very hard to come by. With Fast and the Furious on a serious decline in actual car quality, we are sometimes left to our own imagination on how Hollywood would depict certain automotive events. With movies like Rush, we got an awesome interpretation into the glorious battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt. The movie was all around quite realistic and it largely focused on the cars and the racing. Well, we finally have another awesome looking racing movie. Ford v. Ferrari is the all new automotive blockbuster that has been in the works for a while, and finally, a trailer has dropped. The movie depicts the rugged build up and battle between Ford and Ferrari during the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Movie stars Christian Bale as legendary racer Ken Miles and Matt Damon as the man himself, Carroll Shelby. The movie comes out on November 15th, 2019.
As more countries get even stricter on their automotive emission standards, more and more money is being poured into electric vehicle research. This has then transcended into the world of automobile racing as it is a great form of R&D. Volkswagen has followed this trend and in June of 2018, the Volkswagen I.D. R made its debut at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. the car did not only debut, but it set a record time of a sub 8 minute hill climb, a feat never done before. Although impressive, Volkswagen wanted its EV to set the bar even further. Earlier this week, news broke that the I.D. R set the fastest EV lap on the Nurburgring at a blistering 6:05.336. I think we can all say that this technology will heavily start to trickle down into their everyday road going cars.
There is nothing more cool than a proper rat rod. Many times people take old 1930’s Ford Model T tubs and build them all out to their liking. This liking generally includes metal seats, a rusted body, and a glorious V8. Its rare to find a rat rod now a days that isn’t the bucket of a Model T, but the fine writers and photographers at SpeedHunters have found a rat rod that will haunt all of our dreams. A man by the name of John Ludwig Jr. has decided to totally go his own rat rod route and build out a Chevy Corvair. He has left the rusted body, chopped the top, and dumped the frame to the ground. Ferrari occasionally unveils a new car. Normally when they do, its a one off model that looks amazing but costs upwards of $4 million and they make 5 of them… so not really a one off. But when they unveil a new flagship car; now that’s quite exciting. A couple days ago, Ferrari decided to show us the all new SF90 hybrid supercar. It shares its name with an F1 car and its twin turbo hybrid V8 system will push out 1,000hp. What more must be said? Read about the full car here.
