Having a hard time choosing just which Oktoberfest to attend this weekend? From the food to the beer to the staff’s attire, Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter hosts the most authentic Oktoberfest in the state, the choice is obvious!
The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is a family owned restaurant tucked in the woods in Stillwater, MN. Karl and Elizabeth Schoene immigrated to the state in 1957 with a vision and in just 9 years built their dream. This year marks 51 years of what they’re proud to call “old world hospitality”, Oktoberfest is sure to be a celebration!
The festival is two weekends, September 14-16 and 21-23. Friday and Saturday are exclusively 21+ while Sundays are Family Day. On Sundays, kids of any age are welcome and there’ll be free face-painting and balloon twister for them to enjoy. Of course, there will be music, dancing and Hammerschlagen for Mom and Dad as well.
Some might come for the family time, while others stop by Oktoberfest for the incomparable German food such as Brats and Chops, Giant pretzels and Cinnamon Roasted Almonds. Dozens of reviews have been posted by Minnesotans of German descent who’ve visited The Gasthaus, all of which endorsed their food as being the most authentic restaurant-served German food they’ve ever had. Some of the most loved and nostalgic menu items (besides the imported beer of course!) are Rahm Puten Schnitzel and the Wurst Sausage Platters. Schnitzel isn’t the most lovely word I’ve ever heard, however, the dish sounds delicious – lightly breaded boneless chicken breast smothered in a sour cream sauce, served with fresh vegetable and German mashed potatoes. The Sausage Platter is pretty self-explanatory – choose from bratwurst, knackwurst, metwurst or weiswurts, served with German potato salad and sauerkraut. Did I mention hot Apple Strudel? I’m in!
Veer from Americanized Oktoberfests and take a trip out to Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter for full-fledged German fun. Add a classic german car to the mix for an even more authentic experience – rent our 1974 BWM 2002 tii for the day!
